Trains of Thoughts

IMG_1431Everyone has trains of thoughts. They are those fragments of ideas that start out in your head as a question, but somewhere in reasoning out the answer, you realize that your answer actually leads you to more questions. Truth is, some trains of thoughts can stand alone. They don’t really need an answer because they are a simple statement or awareness. The caveat to that though, is that some simple statements open up a plethora of questions. Maybe that is why they are called “trains” You can add or subtract as many cars as you wish, elongating or abbreviating the cortège. The one commonality between trains and thoughts, is that they all begin with an engine and eventually arrive at a destination.

This tome has no absolute answers. It has only ruminations. Even an elementary statement may be deceptive. An example of this would be, “The sky is blue.” Some might read that trite statement and think, okay, while others might read the same four words and think, well, not always. It can be azure or mauve or even pink; thus creating a litany of possibilities.

I began jotting these musings down over twenty years ago. They were hand written on scraps of paper, in cheap spiral notebooks. I would scribble down the gibberish that was rattling around in my head for no reason other than to gain some control over my continuous ribbons of wonder. As I look back on them today, some remain as relevant as they were then. Although I have found the answers to many, I continue to be puzzled by others.

No world crises will be solved in this collection, nor is my purpose to convince you of my brilliance. It’s just about thinking, analyzing, pondering and even dreaming as you allow your brain to take a walk in wonderment.

### 1. . A deep sigh means  you’re too busy thinking about something else to remember to breathe.

Being Armed

I now own “Blogging for Dummies,” “WordPress for Dummies,” and “Websites for Dummies.” (Good thing my feelings are swaddled in bubble wrap, or I might feel stupid.) Add to this that I have a Big Mac in my computer room, a Nu Mac in my bedroom and an Air Mac that I carry outside to my desk (really a picnic table). I also use the notes section on my iPhone to capture any train of thought that might go whisking by. So I am armed and ready. But for what? Are any of theses appliances going to make me a better writer? Probably not. But if they sit patiently by my side like a good friend just waiting to be of service and encourage me to learn something new, then maybe I’ll revise my opinion.

Conference Muddle Continues

I’m bumbling away right now, but like a honey bee, I prefer to think of it as humming, not stumbling. I’m flitting from media source to media source in search of nectar and pollen. I was told at the conference, that social media acceptance and reader following are just as valuable as a good manuscript. So, my current goal is to search out the comb and provide pure raw honey to hungry bees so that as a family, our colony will grow.

Writers in Conference

Attending a writers conference in New York City this past week was…. well… I’m not quite sure yet. So much information was batted back and forth, that for me, the verdict is still out. As of today, I would have to say that even though the conversations and information flowed like wine, there is more I don’t know (and didn’t know I didn’t know) than do. But throughout a quagmire of confusion there is one thing that remains true.  I LOVE TO WRITE!

I may never attain the title or prestige of being a New York Times Bestselling Author. I may never be invited to be a guest lecturer at a well known university. And I may never be able to pay my mortgage with the revenues from book sales. But I promise you (and myself) this…. I will write!  Because what it really comes down to is… “if it feels good, do it!”

The Dance….

There is a wonderful anonymity hiding behind the written word. You can say or be anything you want. You can project a serious, shy, intellectual or a fanciful, extroverted bohemian. You are also afforded the opportunity to be completely honest and possibly find the companion of your dreams, or you can lie out your ass and never resurface again. The decision is entirely up to you, the story you weave, and the foreplay created between you and your audience.

Getting started is the hardest thing…..

I’m slowly learning that simply wanting to write is not enough. As a matter of fact, all the hoop-la that goes with it is intimidating to say the least. I am also learning that editing or changing something that you’ve written, doesn’t necessarily make it better. I think I’ll keep learning.
